Homemade Ginger Simple Syrup

Ginger Simple Syrup is an easy to make, soothing, spicy-sweet syrup that supports circulation, digestion, and warmth ~ perfect for cooler seasons!

What do you use ginger syrup for?

It can be used pretty much anywhere you would use a simple syrup, but want a flavorful, lightly spicy kick. These are a few of my favorite ways:

  • Mixed with sparkling water and a squeeze of lemon for a refreshing spritzer

  • Stirred into hot water, tea, matcha, or coffee

  • Drizzled on oatmeal or buttered toast

  • Swirled over yogurt or ice cream

  • Add to baked apples or an apple tart

  • In cocktails

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ¾ cup water

  • 1 cup fresh ginger root, sliced or chopped (peeled or unpeeled)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until dissolved.

  2. Add ginger and bring to a gentle boil.

  3. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat and let steep (covered) for 1 hour.

  5. Strain out ginger and pour syrup into a clean jar or bottle.

Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage - just pop one into your drink or tea when needed!

Feeling adventurous?

  • Want a stronger kick? Let it steep longer.

  • Use raw or brown sugar for a deeper flavor.

  • Adjust sweetness by using more or less sugar to taste.

  • Winter spices ~ including cinnamon, star anise, cloves, and allspice ~ are made for ginger syrup!

  • Add a vanilla bean or a tsp vanilla extract for a “softer” ginger flavor.

Made the ginger syrup?

Tell me how you used it—tea, mocktails, pancakes? I’d love to see your creations!

With gingery goodness
