Dry Brushing
Dry Brushing is a simple, grounding form of self-massage that supports both the skin and lymphatic system.
Using a coarse brush and gentle, consistent strokes (always moving toward the heart), you can:
✨ Exfoliate the skin - removing dead cells and unclogging pores
✨ Stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow
✨ Support your body’s natural detox pathways
✨ Create a moment of mindful nervous system support
Some people love dry brushing in the morning to feel refreshed and energized. Others prefer it as a relaxing ritual before bed. Try both and see what your body prefers.
Pro tip: Always shower after brushing to wash away dead skin, and follow with a favorite moisturizer or body oil.
How to Dry Brush:
Legs: Start at the foot and work up to the hip with long, gentle strokes.
Arms: Begin at the hand and brush toward the shoulder.
Abdomen: Use upward strokes from below the navel to the chest.
• A clockwise circular motion can support digestion.
Ribs: Brush from hips up to the armpits for lymphatic support.
Back: Start low and brush upward toward the shoulders.
Neck: Lightly brush down the sides of the neck toward the heart.
I prefer a small hand-held brush (like the one shown), but a long-handled version can help reach your back more easily.
This simple practice is a beautiful act of radical self-care, and it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Dry brushing is one of my most recommended “homework” assignments for clients. Why? Because it’s not just about the physical benefits (though those are real). It’s the intention, the pause, and the act of tuning in that makes it so powerful.
It’s a way to say: “I’m caring for my body. I’m paying attention. I’m here.”
Have you tried dry brushing?
